Camp Clean-up
In partnership with the Regional Outreach Cooperative (ROC), our outreach program assists individuals who live in homeless encampments throughout the Greater Chattanooga area, including: Red Bank, Signal Mtn., Rossville, Lee Hwy, Brainerd, East Ridge, etc.
Volunteers will work with the ROC, to clean up vacant homeless camps, including:
- trash pick
- uphauling of large scrap
- responsibly managing waste
- “leaving no trace” of the camp.
Volunteers will possibly be carrying weights of up to 50lbs. Volunteers will travel independently to the site, where ROC staff will be waiting to lead them into the camp. Equipment and PPE will be provided, including: gloves, trash claws, garbage bags, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, etc.
BYOS Bring Your Own Stuff- hiking shoes or tennis shoes, long pants, and water. (Bringing your own work gloves is encouraged!)
*Due to the nature of this work, it is imperative that volunteers adhere to CF’s trauma-informed principles and the ROC’s Code of Ethics.
*We recommend that volunteers have a self-care/coping plan in place. This work often involves third-world conditions, which can be traumatic to witness or bring upon vicarious trauma.
*This volunteer opportunity can be physically demanding, as camps are "off the beaten path" and require extensive walking, hiking, climbing, etc. Volunteers can be exposed to potential hazards, like broken glass, while performing this work.
The Regional Outreach Cooperative (R.O.C.) is a Chattanooga initiative created to organize, standardize, and provide holistic outreach care to people experiencing homelessness. By partnering with like-minded organizations and agencies, we streamline access to services for those experiencing unsheltered homelessness and eliminate the duplication of services between service providers.
